Having had the console for a few days, I offer you my test of theXbox Series! Happy reading 🙂
For as long as I've been dreaming of playing it, I've finally had Microsoft's new high-end console for a few days. I broke my piggy bank to give myself this console and clearly I'm very happy with it for the moment!
The Next Gen is finally available!
Yes it was about time! It took 7 long years for Xbox and Playstation to finally renew their video game consoles! Frankly, it was about time, especially since at the time XBox One and PS4 were far from shining compared to the PCs of the time. They were really consoles with an eco+ configuration.
Today, the situation is different! The Xbox Series X, finally available in France, has a truly muscular configuration capable of competing with a high-end PC. Without going into details, the Xbox Series Game consoles are finally hitting the ground running!
The Look of the console!
We like it or we don't like it, I personally find the look of this Xbox Series X really nice. It's discreet, sober, it exudes solidity, and the materials used seem to be of good quality. Obviously I strongly recommend that you install it vertically. IN horizontal mode I admit it’s ugly.
However, be careful with TV furniture! The Xbox Series Do not lock your console in a TV cabinet that is too narrow. The console must breathe and expel hot air correctly. it depends on the lifespan of the console and its silence.
Connecting the XBox!
Now, plugging in this Xbox Series X is child’s play! A power cable connected to an electrical outlet (bye bye the unsightly power supply) and an HDMI cable (2.1 please!) connected to the TV and that's it! I didn't bother, I connected my Xbox Series
The Xbox Series X/S pad!
The pad doesn't change too much. If I don't say stupidity, it's a bit smaller than the Xbox One Pad. It has a new “share” button in the middle of the controller allowing you to share photos and gameplay videos like on PS4. It also has the directional cross of the Elite controller as well as grips on the back of the controller for more comfort in game. I also noticed better responsiveness of the controller in game and that's really cool. In short, it's an improved Xbox One controller! As a reminder, if you want to keep your Xbox One pad, it works perfectly on Xbox Series X and S.
The console OS!
For me this is the main flaw of the XBox Series X and S. The new console keeps the same operating system of the Original Xbox One. I still have trouble finding my way around, even though year after year this OS has improved. Clearly I would have preferred a simple operating system like at the time of the Xbox 360, PS4 or Nintendo Switch. In short, Xbox has work to do to offer a simple and intuitive operating system for the new Xboxes.
Backwards compatibility of games!
So, I bow. The backward compatibility of Xbox One games on Xbox Series This is very good work. As a reminder, all XBox One games are compatible (except Kinect) as well as the list of XBox 360 and Xbox Original retro games. I'm enjoying rediscovering my Xbox One/360 and Xbox Original games in a new light. The frame rate is better, the HDR enhances the games, the loading times are much lower and on my 4K TV it's pure joy :) . I dream that one day, the entire Xbox 360 game catalog and originals will be compatible! Fingers crossed 🙂
Small tutorial, certain games in addition to being backward compatible are also optimized for the Xbox Series X and S. But be careful for this to work, the games must be installed on the internal SSD. You have been warned!
Next gen games!
I've completed DiRT5, and I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The common point between these two games is the framerate at 60 frames per second! But what a joy to FINALLY play in 60 FPS! It's much smoother and much more enjoyable to play! Visually it is also superb with HDR and 4K resolution often with high details. And of course thanks to the SSD the loading times are low for my greatest happiness! As a reminder, if you want the equivalent on PC to play as well as on XBox Series X, you will need a PC between 1000 and 1500 €! That's not bad for a 500€ console??? Damn, I can’t wait to play the next video games :)
Silence we play!
Microsoft has really worked well to offer an incredibly quiet Xbox Series What a joy to play with a video game console that makes zero noise. It’s impressive. I played Forza Horizon 4 in total silence! On digital games, the Xbox Series X is inaudible, no sound comes from the machine. With a disc game I noticed a slight hum from the player. What is certain is that it is a change from my Playstation 4 Pro which ventilates like an A380.
Storage on Xbox Series X and S!
Well, this is the bane of next gen consoles. Whether for the PS5 or Xbox Series On PS5 we will only have 620 GB usable and on Xbox Series X 800 GB. The XBox Series S is even worse only 300GB and some dust will be usable. It's really little. Current games are often 100GB or more. You will therefore have to make room on the SSD and not play several games at the same time. Well on Xbox Series We will have to rely on other manufacturers to offer less expensive storage cards.
My verdict on the Xbox Series
The Xbox Series X is technically very powerful, completely silent with digital games and discreet with its sober design. Even if the operating system remains that of the Xbox One and the SSD is only 1000GB, this Xbox is clearly worth its €500. Want the equivalent on PC? You will have to pay between €1000 and €1500 to play in 4K 60 fps! The question is quickly answered as the other clown would say. With Xbox Game Pass and the first next gen games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion and soon Cyberpunk 2077, there is no doubt that I will have a blast with my new Xbox Series X! And yet we haven’t seen anything from the next Xbox Game Studio games! I can't wait for Fable to be revealed, just like the very first game from the Initiative studio!
