Xbox One S review
In the Xbox One family, I request the S model! Fast forward to my Xbox One S review!
Yes I know it's not reasonable, but what do you want, it's my little Christmas treat :p. My 4K television in the living room being very often occupied by my dear and loving partner, I thought why not get a small Xbox One S for the Full HD television in my bedroom. The opportunity was so good, I found a small new Xbox One S PUBG 1TB for 110€ instead of 200! It’s the Xbox One S with an Ultra HD Blu-ray optical drive! Don't mess around either, I wasn't going to get the Xbox One S All Digital 😀 . At €120, this dematerialized Xbox One S without optical drive was an obstacle for me to purchase, a very simple question came to mind, how to play my second-hand games on this Xbox? Unfortunately, this is simply impossible. Maybe in a few years, full digital consoles will find an audience, but the price will have to be more attractive for me to go for it. That’s not all that, but let’s get back to business! So here is my review of the Xbox One S!
A White XBox!
Finally a white console! I'm fed up with these black video game consoles, it's absolutely sad! The look of thisXbox One Sis superb! Both modern and sober, this Xbox One S erases all the cosmetic defects of the Original Xbox One. Say goodbye to the big, ugly, space-consuming power supply and the VCR look of the first Xbox One. This Xbox One S is 4O% smaller than the original console, the power supply has disappeared and it’s a big sigh of relief! The icing on the cake is that this little Xbox One S has an Ultra HD Blu-ray player that will delight movie buffs!
The Xbox One S's connectivity has been slightly redesigned, it now has a USB port on the front of the console as well as USB 3 ports on the back and the classic Ethernet, HDMI, optical ports, etc. Unfortunately, for Kinect camera aficionados, you will need to inquire about an adapter sold separately to connect the Kinect to the Xbox One S. The Xbox One S controller has slightly evolved by offering (finally) a headphone jack, and Bluetooth connectivity for PCs running Windows 10. As for regrets, the Xbox One S pad still (and still) works with batteries! Yes, it's almost 2020 and you have to put batteries in the controller! No but Halo what!!! 🙂
Jump In!
As the Xbox One slogan indicates, let's jump into the interface of this Xbox One S. I'll keep it short, nothing (or almost) changes compared to the interface of the classic Xbox One. Well, a few little things anyway. This Xbox One S accepts 4K resolution but also HDR, if you have a 4K TV take advantage of it! You will enjoy watching your Ultra HD Blu-rays and running your games on your brand new 4K TV. I'm happy with the full HD resolution for my old television which at 10 years old, you shouldn't ask too much of it given its great age :) . As I said above, the XBox One interface is the same regardless of the console used. Despite these numerous updates, I still don't appreciate this messy and far from intuitive Xbox One interface. There are too many tabs, tiles, options, every time I get lost and struggle to find the game in this interface. Frankly for the next generation of consoles, I hope that Microsoft will take inspiration from the simple and intuitive interface of the PS4 or the Switch…
Let's move on to installing the games! I thank my RED fiber optic internet connection which allows me not to wait too long when setting up the games on my console… Sincerely I pity those who are still on ADSL with their PS4 and Xbox One. This generation of consoles is unbearable with these endless updates :/.
Once in play, this Xbox One S does the job well! You should know, but Microsoft has slightly boosted the console's processor and allows certain games to be a bit faster, in addition to displaying a 4K upscale and HDR for compatible TVs. As with the original Xbox One but also the XBox One X, this Xbox One S is silent in game!!! What a joy to be able to play in silence! For that alone I enjoy playing on XBox One much more than on my PS4 Pro hairdryer…
Then, thanks to my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription valid until 2022, my Xbox One S (like my Xbox One Benefiting from a catalog of more than a hundred games and the online subscription with Gold, it is simply impossible to be bored on your Xbox One. At the moment I'm enjoying Gears 5, Life Is Strange 2, Forza Horizon 4 and I can't wait to play Flight Simulator and Halo Infinite soon :p. Xbox One S review verdict
This XBox One S is a total success, both visual and technical. It has modern technologies (Ultra HD blu-ray player and HDR games), it is robust, compact and silent. The Xbox One S is currently the best economical choice for experiencing the potential of Xbox family games. This console is clearly a good plan. It is often available at a low price (110/150€) in a bundle with games and for that alone, it is worth it! In addition, if you have the opportunity to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, then your Xbox One will become an essential console! Jump in 🙂
