I only knew the fun video saga Tropico by name, and I let myself be tempted by Tropico 6 on PS5 Thank youKoch Mediafor sending me a copy of the game so that I could do my test! Tropico is a bit of a city Builder with a Sim City flavor “que viva la revolution” 🙂 This Tropico 6 smells like a Cuban management game with the legendary “El presidente”

As mentioned earlier in this test, Tropico 6 is a very advanced city management game! If you like this type of video game (management/strategy) you will be delighted! In Tropico 6 we play El Presidente and we will have to convince the inhabitants of the island to be the politician (dictator of your choice ^^) of the situation. It's up to you to choose between satisfying the population or ruling your dictatorship with an iron fist. The different factions of your archipelago (capitalists, ecological, communists) will call upon you throughout the game! It's up to you to choose if you want to satisfy them but you can also completely neglect them! You are a dictator after all right? Be careful however, our mandate is limited we will have to convince and conquer the hearts of the population, at the risk of being (largely) replaced as the other would say!!!

The choices are (very, too) numerous in Tropico 6 as are the different buildings which all offer different perspectives for your island. Tropico 6 has lived up to its reputation as a management game. It’s very very complete. We exploit agricultural land with different types of crops, we make rum, we set up farms, mines, we cut down trees in order to exploit forests, we develop fishing, tourism, etc. etc. The possibilities for exploiting the archipelago are incredibly varied.   I made the mistake of skimming the tutorial wrongly believing that my experience in management games would help me.  In short, I broke my teeth ^^. We pay dearly for any mistake in Tropico 6. It took me a while to understand how to earn money in Tropico 6. Indeed, expenses increase quickly as we install buildings/farms/agricultural land to advance our island. I then understood the importance and interest of trade agreements and piracy raids. In short, don't do like me, follow this very complete tutorial religiously so as not to be caught off guard in Tropico 6.

Tropico 6 offers around fifteen scripted missions in order to familiarize yourself with the different possibilities, strategies and management offered by Tropico 6. The challenges of these missions are numerous and allow you to progress in learning Tropico 6. Once these missions are completed, the main advantage for a management/strategy game is to offer a sandbox mode! Tropico 6 is clearly there because it has an incredibly generous sandbox mode! It has many varied archipelagos, but above all a customization of the complete part without forgetting to offer different eras of our history. The settings are very numerous, every player will find something to suit them.

I was worried that Tropico 6 would be unplayable on the controller. Indeed, the city builder genre is more suited to PC with the keyboard+mouse duo. Finally, pad in hand, it's pretty well thought out, after some time to adapt. The menu is centralized via a simple button, we select our action with the joystick, we validate and place our building. It's certainly less precise and faster than with a keyboard and mouse, but it remains perfectly playable with a controller after a few games. Well, on the other hand, it's a bit of a hassle to place the routes with the pad. On Playstation 5 Tropico 6 is visually nice! Our archipelago is colorful, detailed, it makes you want to go on vacation 🙂. I haven't noticed any bugs or slowdowns. This next gen adaptation is very correct!

I will now discuss the few flaws concerning Tropico 6. I noticed a redundancy in faction requests. Just like I noticed that it is complicated to get our finances out of the red if we spend lavishly like John Hamond :p. The possibilities of quickly regaining money are low, any error is paid for in cash in Tropico 6. Some challenges are also tough for beginners. There is no doubt that Tropico 6 must satisfy experts in management/strategy video games!

Tropico 6 is a very complete Cuban archipelago strategy management game! It is demanding and it is highly recommended to go through the tutorial in order to fully understand the complete mechanics of the game! Tropico 6 is well suited to Next Gen! It is playable without too much difficulty on the controller. If you like Cuban Sim City style management games, Tropico 6 is for you!
