If you are too young you may not know Paper Boy! But for others, I offer you my review of Paper Boy on Sega Master System!
I can tell you that when I was little, I had a blast watching this Paper Boy video game! At the time I wasn't aware of how difficult it was but I found this concept very funny! Here is my review of Paper Boy on Sega Master System 2
Get to work Paper Boy!
Our brave Paper Boy has his work cut out for him. If you don't know what a paper boy knows, watch a film or an American series and you will see a kid on a bike delivering the newspaper to each house every day! So! So in the video game version of Paper Boy, you get on your bike and distribute the newspaper outside each house! But as you can imagine, obstacles will hamper the proper daily distribution of the newspaper. Haha frankly you are going to eat obstacles, between lawn mowers, manholes, workers on jackhammers, skateboarders, cars, kids and mini tornadoes (yes mini tornadoes ^^) you will easily lose your precious life! In addition, be careful because you can easily break house windows while distributing the newspaper and you risk losing subscribers... Paper Boy has 3 lives to complete his work week at 7 days!
Papy Boy?
And yes! That’s a bit of the impression I get playing Paper Boy today! It’s one of the master system games, which I find has aged badly! It must be said that in Paper Boy, the isometric 3D is frankly simplistic and the colors basic! Even if the Sega Master System is an 8Bit console it can do much better! Even if this game was fluid for the time, the animation was not perfect and the obstacle bugs made it easy to lose, unfortunately, a precious life. Already Paper Boy is difficult with its obstacles to avoid, by adding these bugs, it adds a new layer of unpleasant difficulty. In terms of lifespan, Paper Boy is doing very well if we take into account a strong repetitive smell during its operation. Regarding the music, if you like elevator music you will be very happy :)
My verdict on Paper Boy!
Clearly, Paper Boy has aged poorly! Simplistic graphics, annoying collision bugs, rather difficult, and quite repetitive overall. But fortunately this video game does not forget to be fun and arcade which corresponded to the specifications of the time! In addition, Paper Boy is quite easy to ride on his bike and it's quite pleasant to play with it for a few minutes from time to time! To conclude, Paper Boy is not the essential game for the Sega Master System, but it is not bad either, fortunately :)
