I am offering you an article today on a virtual reality video game! Here is my Test of After The Fall on Playstation VR!
It's been a long time since I unboxed my Playstation VR! I had forgotten how long and tedious it was to install 😀 Cables, cables and more cables to connect ^^ Once again I say thank you toKoch Mediafor sending me a copy of the game After The Fall for Playstation VR. It was a challenge for me because normally my favorite area for virtual reality games are quiet games that can be played sitting down most of the time 😀. I'm thinking of car racing games, roller coaster rail games or space combat games. Now testing a nervous 3D FPS type game in VR I wasn't calm, but at the same time I wanted to try :) In the end I didn't do too badly (sitting but not standing lol)
I'll spare you the details of the game's scenario, it's a great classic here. Post apocalyptic. We play a resistance fighter 16 years after “the fall”. Zombies called “snowbreed” cause panic, kill and freeze survivors. Obviously our goal is to embody the resistance and kill the zombie. The game has a central hub (an HQ) called “the line” (a sort of abandoned metro station) in order to meet other players, launch different types of games and improve/customize our weapons
As a reminder, After The Fall is an FPS game in virtual reality. This game has the intelligence to be cross gen! (Oculus Quest 2 PsVR and HTC Vive) This allows you to meet many more players and be able to play more easily with several people regardless of the platform.
Let's start the game!
Finally equipped with my Playstation VR headset, I first played with the Dualshock 4 controller, it's doable but not optimal. Fortunately during the 2021 end-of-year sales, I bought the Playstation Aim Controller. Despite its somewhat cheap, plastic look (see intimate toy ^^) the Aim controller offers much better handling/Immersion. I recommend it to you, otherwise take a Playstation Move Controller it will always be better than the controller.
After The Fall offers quite a few options to optimize gameplay in virtual reality. I wanted to play standing up because this game lent itself very well to it. I quickly let go of the matter. This game being fast, vertical and nervous, after a few minutes of play, I was overcome by dizziness, headaches and even nausea :/ I started again the next day this time playing seated and there was no problem! On the other hand, I never exceeded 20-30 minute sessions in accordance with the advice of virtual reality experts.
The immersion in After The Fall does the job! Even if the graphics are not exceptional, we find ourselves immersed in this FPS video game thanks to virtual reality! The sensations are present! Killing hordes of zombies is exhilarating, it's a good release. As in Left4Dead, you can play with up to 4 players in cooperative mode and you must survive different waves of zombie attacks to then find yourself in secure areas. On a personal level, beyond having the impression of playing a Left4Dead in VR, I also had the impression of finding myself in the Sega game House Of The Dead! I have a lot of fun killing zombies in this game :) By killing zombies we collect snowbreed essence which allows us to invest in weapons and customizing them. The game's story mode boils down to harvest missions, in short, cleaning up areas by defeating hordes of zombies. You can play alone with 3 AI or cooperatively with up to 4 players online. There is also a Player Versus Player (Pvp) mode, always up to 4 players.
In short, After The Fall has many positive points. The immersion is present, it's fun to kill zombies in VR, it's a good little Left4Dead Like. Concerning the negative points I noted a few. Each time you launch a game, you have to go through the hardware calibration box again, it's a bit daunting and not always responsive. The AI is also bad when playing alone, clearly it doesn't help us when we find ourselves with special zombies. After The Fall is also a bit repetitive. I also noticed a few crashes during online sessions.
My verdict!
After The Fall is a good little virtual reality FPS. For me it's a mix between a Left4Dead and a House Of The Dead. The shooting sensations are good, it's exhilarating to kill zombies alone or with others. It loses a few points because of its bugs, its teammate AI in the west, its need to be recalibrated during each session and its repetitive side. But hey if you need to let off some steam on zombie in virtual reality after a crappy day at work After The Fall will satisfy you :)
