Test Life Is Strange True Colors

I was quietly checking out the games offered in my Xbox Game Pass subscription and I let myself be tempted by thisLife Is Strange True Colors. I like to have a little session of Life Is Strange from time to time. What's new in this new episode?

In Life Is Strange True Colors, we play Alex Chen who plans to join his brother in Haven Springs, Colorado and start a new life after a complicated childhood/adolescence (the word is weak). As in every episode of Life Is Strange, our protagonist, Alex, has a very particular power (empathy). She is able to sense/control people's emotions and read minds. Obviously, as that brave Peter Parker would say in the Spiderman saga, with great power comes great responsibility! As in the film that I love, "The Butterfly Effect", each act has a consequence and, like Telltale Games' games, some of our choices will lead to totally unexpected reactions. In Life Is Strange True Colors, a tragic event will change the situation, and our character Alex Chen will have to investigate and disentangle fact from fiction.

The studio Deck Nine Games invites us in its Life Is Strange True Colors to dive into the mining town of Haven Springs. A bit like in Shenmue, each inhabitant of this small town has their own temperament, I found in this game the warm and special atmosphere of our small villages. It's a shame, however, that we can't explore every corner of this small town, we are limited to a large shopping street and its surroundings. Graphically, Life Is Strange True Colors is neat, however the camera is not always fluid. This game invites you to travel and offers beautiful, colorful panoramas. Our character Alex Chen being a music lover, she offers us very beautiful catchy and relaxing music throughout this great adventure. This Life Is Strange True Colors is a relaxing game that's a change from boring FPS and action/adventure games. Pad in hand, Alex moves easily, the gameplay mainly consists of exploration, simple reflections and QTE (quick time events).

Life Is Strange True Colors aptly evokes different themes that are close to my heart, such as Alzheimer's disease, which unfortunately affects more and more people around the world. It also deals in an intimate and realistic manner with the brother/sister relationship but also with friendship, inclusiveness, empathy and love. This game is committed but it is not forcing so that each player finds their way. Life Is Strange True Colors offers several chapters and at the end you will be able to compare your choices with those of other players around the world. Concerning the decisions we make in the game I have the feeling that they do not greatly change the story proposed in this game, the common thread does not let us do what we want in this adventure. Too bad, I really would have loved to have many different plots. I also noticed some small inconsistencies/inaccuracies in this story, which slightly spoils the immersion.

My verdict

Life Is Strange True Colors offers us a touching story. This game is an invitation to travel and a beautiful human and musical experience.  It's a shame that our choices change the story of this game so little. This Life Is Strange may also lack depth and its few inaccuracies in the staging slightly spoil this beautiful story. But hey Life Is Strange True Colors is still a good experience :)
