Super Mario Bros. Movie Review
For this little family weekend, I offer you my review of Super Mario Bros. The Movie!
And yes, I had to go see Super Mario Bros The Movie with my 2 boys aged 6 and 9 as well as with my partner :) . We already play Mario Kart as a family, and everyone knows the mustachioed plumber through the ages from the Nintendo Nes/Gameboy/Super Nes/Nintendo 64/Gamecube/Wii/Wii U to the Switch. He is probably one of the most famous Nintendo video game characters.
Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, the minions, like beasts, all on stage) offers us a superb animated film Super Mario Bros. The Movie. It’s visually impeccable, and this film respects the Mario Bros universe perfectly.
The French voices fit the characters well, the sound effects undoubtedly evoke our mustachioed plumber video games. The music gives a good atmosphere to this film, it’s really not bad at all.
To say how popular Mario is, the big main room of the cinema was full! It's good to see a packed room after these unbearable Covid 19 years. The giggles from the children (including mine) during this session were numerous, this Super Mario Bros The Movie is the perfect entertainment for our toddlers.
Obviously Mario Bros aficionados are not left out. Super Mario Bros the movie, done in excessive fan service! Everywhere, and I mean everywhere, we find references to all Mario video games. There are also references to other famous films. For me it’s an overdose of references and it’s a shame. There are too many winks in this film, the story is cannibalized and is clearly not (inspired) original. As I have read in other reviews, Super Mario Bros the Movie tells nothing, and that is clearly what I felt during this cinema session.
My verdict!
Super Mario Bros. The Movie is an entertaining animated film for children and Mario fans. It's technically solid, the Vf is quality and it's full of references from Mario games. Unfortunately, this excess of fan service completely overshadows the story of the film which is already unfortunately lacking in inspiration. I'm still not going to be a jerk, because my children had a good time watching this Mario film, and I also enjoyed certain scenes which were funny.
