Shenmue review on Dreamcast
Shenmue! this game at 15 years old, it hasn't aged a bit! What a video game monument! Shenmue is Yu Suzuki's unfinished masterpiece! This game is mandatory for any fan of old games! It is an experience to live that will change your vision of video games!This game shocked me, I wholeheartedly hope one day to be able to know the end of this saga created by the brilliant Yu Suzuki!
But what is Shenmue? For people who haven't had the pleasure of playing it, Shenmue is an adventure, exploration, RPG, fighting and puzzle game. He is everything at once! The writing of the scenario is really very careful! You will literally immerse yourself in the adventure and in the life of the young Ryo Hazuki that you will play! You will find yourself in a small Japanese town, in November 1986!
Unfortunately young Ryo will experience a family tragedy and wishing to take revenge, he will have to investigate on his own! I won’t say any more because it would be a crime for me to reveal the scenario of this masterpiece to you! Yu Suzuki created a system in this game called F.R.E.E. You will explore a living city, everything is interactive and each inhabitant has their own life! The programming work in this game is titanic! Please note that you must respect the times of the various appointments, it is not possible to speed up the time! You will do a lot of things like in real life! I try to start this game again every time I discover new things!
Let's talk technical, visually even 15 years later, this game puts a slap in the face to a lot of current productions! Shenmue is magnificent, the city is coherent, the settings are impressive, the characters are on the verge of photo realism! the attention to detail and careful work is at its peak! The handling is perfect! and what can we say about the soundtrack which is moving and fits the universe of Shenmue! For me the lifespan of this game is infinite! I enjoy taking my time in this game, like a dish, Shenmue I savor it! A small flaw in the game is that it is entirely in English (SEGA did not have the financial means to translate this game).
I would like to say a big thank you to the brilliant creator of this game Yu Suzuki, Shenmue has marked me for life! I have no shame in giving his game a 20/20! Shenmue is a mandatory game for any self-respecting gamer! I hope to play Shenmue 3 one day! (My wish was granted! At the end of 2017 we will be able to play Shenmue III ^^)
