Shenmue II review on Dreamcast
January 2001, SEGA announced the end of production of the Dreamcast, and at the same time SEGA announced that it would no longer be a console manufacturer. This ad disgusted me! What a tragic fate for this magnificent console! It was not without a certain emotion that I played Shenmue II for the first time on my Dreamcast!Indeed, Shenmue II was the last game planned for the console abandoned by SEGA! And what a game! Shenmue II is by far one of the best games on the Dreamcast! It ends the career of this console in style! Shenmue 2 is obviously the sequel to the first episode! For those who did not have the pleasure of playing the first Shenmue, a quick summary of the first opus is displayed at the start of the game!
The hero of the game, Ryo Hazuki, arrives in Hong Kong still in search of the truth and he is determined to take revenge. Ryo will meet different characters who will help him in his adventure, and he will discover the magnificent landscapes of Hong Kong and the heart of China as well as ancestral customs. Shenmue II is a real call to travel! We're having fun! This game is always a mix between an adventure game, exploration, RPG, combat, in short there is something to have fun and have fun!
Technically, the Dreamcast gives its all! Shenmue II is even more beautiful than the first episode! The play area is colossal! And what about the magnificent landscapes and cities which are detailed and realistic (it should be noted that Yu Suzuki reproduced real existing districts and monuments)! The programming work is amazing, you really have to see it to believe it! The only downside is some slowdowns in the game and the display distance of the characters is random. It should be noted that the game is again in English. But hey, nothing too bad! The storyline is very neat, the soundtrack is unforgettable, and the handling is perfect! The lifespan of Shenmue II is very good, especially since you can start the game again and discover new things!
