Here is my detailed article which discusses the test of the Sega Mega Drive! The queen of 16 bits!

SEGA IS STRONGER THAN YOU!

What a hell of a slogan anyway, I still remember it! Sega knew how to do marketing back then! At that time, I was a kid drooling over the images of Sega Mega Drive video games that flashed past in TV commercials. This famous Sega Mega Drive, I dreamed of it every night. Obviously, I only had the Sega Master System 2. After talking to my Mom every day about this Sega console, I finally had permission to buy a Sega Mega Drive 2 in a specialized store with my pocket money :)!

The Mega Drive was Sega's 16-bit console which competed head-on with the Super Nintendo of the time! Sega pulled out all the stops, thanks to a futuristic console design, but also thanks to a quality sound and graphics chip. This console exuded solidity.

Technically speaking, this 16-bit Mega Drive was a huge step forward from the 8-bit Sega Master System console. This Sega Mega Drive clearly had the power of a 90s arcade machine all in a small black console. The images were breathtaking but above all the games were crazy fast! Sonic The Hedgehog was clearly the technical standard bearer for Sega's 16-bit console. This ultra-fast platform game had everyone in agreement at the time! The sound chip of the Sega Mega Drive was also very good, how can we forget the cult music of Street Of Rage and our favorite blue hedgehog! These sounds are the lullabies of my childhood ^^. The original pad of the Sega Mega Drive will experience a major evolution in the long career of the console. This new Mega Drive pad will be smaller, more ergonomic, but above all equipped with 6 buttons. In short, the ideal pad for the cult fighting game Street Fighter 2.

The Sega Mega Drive video game console will undergo various developments, including the famous Sega Mega Drive 2 that I owned when I was a kid. Sega will even offer technical extensions for this Sega Mega Drive including a Mega CD player to offer games on CD but also the 32X extension which will offer some 32-bit games. These 2 expansions will be a commercial flop (the start of troubles for Sega) unlike the Mega Drive which was a hit all over the world.

The Sega Mega Drive catalog is clearly a gold mine. She has countless video game hits. The star of the Sega Mega Drive catalog is obviously the entire Sonic The Hedgehog video game saga (Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles)! The blue hedgehog even became the official mascot of the Japanese firm! We had to compete with a certain Mustachioed Plumber from Nintendo. 30 years later, the Sonic The Hedgehog games are still just as popular, these games are timeless. How can we also forget the Street Of Rage saga, Street Fighter 2, Aladdin, Ecco, the Lion King, Outrun, Phantasy Star, Shinobi, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Altered Beast, Castelvania, Virtua Racing, NBA Jam, Super Monaco GP 2, Ristar, MJ Moonwalker, Mortal Combat, Earthworm Jim, Mickey Mouse, the list is too long! This Sega Megadrive was a damn good console!!!! I still smell the boxes and game cartridges! This Sega Mega Drive is the 16-bit video game console that made history!

The 16-bit generation of video game consoles is timeless. Obviously the majority of games were in 2 dimensions, they age very well, unlike the 32-bit 3D games on the Playstation and the SAturn. Obviously the ideal is to play with a good old family Cathode TV, the image will then be perfect 🙂
