Here is my test of Scars Above on PC :)
Hello everyone!
Je suis K, new part-time tester on the Start and Play blog, player of all styles of games and incidentally colleague of sega4ever64. You will have the pleasure of meeting me from time to time for game tests which I hope will be pleasant for you to read.
Enough of the chatter, today your humble servant has in his hands Scars Above from Mad Head Games. Thanks to Team Plaion for the copy of the game! (Test on PC version). I played with the keyboard+mouse combo
The introduction will not leave you with a lasting memory, we play a scientist, Kate Ward, who joins a spaceship, the Hermes, with a crew of three other members on board.
Our mission is to study an extraterrestrial structure in orbit for several months above the Earth, the Metahedron. We are on a classic scenario which does the job. Don't expect any flashes of revelation. As you probably suspect, things go badly, we find ourselves on an unknown and hostile planet.
Hostile is the right word because the fauna has given itself the word to make you drool, by throwing itself on you, throwing poison at you, suddenly appearing next to you. In short, you will find yourself slightly helpless in the face of the difficulty at the start of the adventure. Rest assured, this difficulty eases in the second half of the game. So don't expect a powerful Soul like. We find ourselves moving forward in a semi-open world, which exudes a certain charm, in search of the other members of the crew. We progress through the different biomes which are visually successful, we rummage around to find components and improve our weapons but we quickly have the feeling of advancing in corridors, which is rather a shame.
Graphically, we are average, some environments are pleasantly rich in detail, others are poorly equipped with fog or snow effects as a cover-up. What is certain is that the game runs perfectly smoothly on my PC. Some bugs are also present but they will undoubtedly be corrected by the day one patch. The soundtrack, for its part, is almost anecdotal but it makes up for it with the oppressive alien sound effects.
The same goes for the bestiary, we enjoy discovering the new creatures (mention for the bosses) but in the end we quickly got around to them. It will take you around fifteen hours to reach the end of the adventure, which seems fair compared to the price.
