Saints Row review

After a long month of vacation, it’s time to go back to school for me too! I offer you my test of Saints Row on my Xbox Series X!

Once again, thanks toPlaionfor allowing me to do this Saints Row test :) . When I returned from vacation, I rushed to install this new Saints Row which presents itself as a reboot of this crazy saga.

I never understood why the Saints Row saga was systematically compared to GTA. For me this comparison is an error because Saints Row is clearly different from GTA. GTA is an incomparable game. It's a monument, a well-crafted story, careful staging, superb gameplay, an unlimited lifespan and an open world more alive than ever.  Saints Row doesn't take itself seriously. It's a release, it's crazy, it's great no matter what and the story often fits on a post-it ^^. But be careful, it’s far from unpleasant! The goal of the game in Saints Row is to create/develop the “Saints” empire and undermine the other clans. Our character, "the boss", having been fired from his job, he decides with his roommate friends to create his own empire, the Saints…

On Xbox Series X Saints Row offers several graphics modes. 4K in 30 frames seconds, 144Op “performance” or 1080p. I tried everything. Frankly, I recommend that you adopt the 1440P mode if your TV accepts it or 1080P performance! Clearly the Saints Row game is much more pleasant and fluid with the pad in hand, goodbye to the slow 30 frames per second. Graphically between 4K and 144Op you will see no differences, prioritize speed 😉.

Let’s talk about the graphics again. I'll be honest, it's old-fashioned. We go back 10 to 15 years. The open-world city and surrounding area “Santo Ileso” lacks detail and life. It’s a shame because there are still some cool visual effects, particularly on the lighting, colors and explosions. This vast open world with a Wild West twist would have deserved better. Probably the aging PS4 and Xbox One are the cause of these old-fashioned graphics.

Pad in hand, Saints Row is pleasant to play. The gun fights are crazy, our boss moves well, the driving of the cars is very arcade. What a joy to destroy the cars on the side :p It explodes everywhere, it's Expandable video game, in short, a good big release as I like them! You can also drive a kind of hoverboard, helicopters, jet skis, tanks (my guilty pleasure^^). Santo Ileso lends itself to anything. The deserts in Wildwest mode remind me of some (very) good moments from Red Dead Redemption. Our character, the boss, surrounded by his roommates are all clichés but they have the merit of being funny! Note also that the character generator is extremely powerful. My boss looks like Tony Montana!

Saints Row is generous with its menu! The missions are varied, some are very inspired, while others are completely crazy (rhaaaa the train mission :p). The developers of the game let themselves go, it shows, they were clearly working hard ^^. Between the missions, the challenges, the numerous scams and activities, there is something to have fun and get dollars easily :) . The Saints Row music sets the mood, the comments are WTF ^^, when we launch the game we know that we are going to unplug our brain, laugh and have a good time without any hassle!

My verdict!

This reboot of Saints Row is good! This return to basics with more down-to-earth gameplay will probably allow us to start on new bases. It's a shame, however, that this new Saints Row suffers from dated graphics. Fortunately, its crazy atmosphere and its crazy missions largely save the honor. And yes, beauty is not everything. Clearly I'm having a lot of fun with this Saints Row! Long live the Boss 😀
