Review of Wo Long Fallen Dynasty

Here is my review of Wo Long Fallen Dynasty on Playstation 5 (and PC)!

Wo Long Fallen Dynastyis the latest game from Team Ninja!Plaionwas kind enough to send me a PS5 version of the game so that I could test Wo Long Fallen Dynasty! For information, this game is also available on Xbox Game Pass on PC and Xbox Series S/X.

I will not hide from you that for the writing of this test, I will seek the help of my colleague and friend Raph “K”. I'm a bit of a Sunday gamer, I'm more of a painter than a video game professional :) . I clearly have 2 left hands, zero experience in souls-like, and needless to say I'm spitting blood with this Wo Long Fallen Dynasty

I naively thought that I could change the difficulty level if I had a problem and well no!!! After many deaths, PS5 pad in hand, I finally progressed after many tries!!! I even made it to the first boss and yeah (I'm trying my best but it won't last :p). Anyway, I arrive at the first boss, obviously I get beaten up a lot. But after several tries, I finally manage to find his weaknesses and I even start to hurt him!!! Quickly I even managed to beat him! Clearly it was a national holiday for me, given that I am a small player at a low level. It was unfortunately, without taking into account the second life of this (biiiiiiiip) boss of (biiiiiiiip)!!! In short, no need to tell you that the second version of this boss literally explodes my face! As a sketch of strangers would say “Even though I'm early in the morning, I'm in pain! » Damn, I’m in pain 🙁

There I am, stuck, and this boss bug is like the nightclub bouncer, who prevents me from having fun in the evening!

He plays on PC via Xbox Game Pass. He has a good experience of punishing video games like Elden Ring, Nioh and company, but above all he has a much better skill than me ^^ Here is his review

I confirm that the confrontation with this first boss is enough to put off the most seasoned, you have to unlearn the loop roll of Elden Ring and concentrate on the parry. Once the timing is acquired, the game immediately becomes easier. Besides, once this boss was defeated, I literally rolled over the next two. The morale system has something to do with it, the more enemies you kill, the more your morale level increases and the more your damage too!  So once the level is cleared, you find yourself with very high morale allowing you to “roll” through the bosses and subsequent levels.

I will content myself, at my level, with discussing the technical part of the game! Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is not really exceptional in terms of its graphics. It's not ugly, but it's clearly not the game that will bring the Playstation 5 to its knees! Team Ninja got me used to much better things, with the magnificent fighters from Dead Or Alive (no I'm not a pervert!!!). At least Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is fluid and our fighter is responsive with his pad in hand, that's already good. Unlike the AI ​​of the bosses which is abused in terms of violence lol, the AI ​​of the enemy soldiers does not seem in its best form. Sometimes, they just wait until we arrive. Ditto for our partner AI of the 1st level, frankly it really doesn't help me while I'm being massacred haha. I also can't seem to take an interest in the interactions with my AI ally, obviously when we take a beating it's hard to listen to it!!! Regarding the story of the game, we are in China in the year 184, we are a soldier who finds himself in the middle of a war between 3 kingdoms.

My verdict!

Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is clearly not for everyone! I am punished by my skill as a player which is more than average. “I didn't come here to suffer OK? » As the other would say! If you are a Sunday gamer like me, or a casual gamer, you will suffer and probably abandon Wo Long Fallen Dynasty in the face of this first boss which is clearly too violent and almost impossible to beat. For me this boss is really unbalanced. There is no doubt that Wo Long Fallen Dynasty seems like a nice game, but clearly it is reserved for players who like challenges and tough video games. However, I would have appreciated if Team Ninja included several difficulty levels, so that I too could enjoy this Wo Long Fallen Dynasty. Fortunately my colleague K took over and made good progress in the game :)
