In order to properly celebrate Halloween, I offer you my test ofThe Quarryon my Xbox Series X! If you loved the horrific video game Until Dawn like I did, you will love The Quarry, no doubt about it! Indeed it is his worthy successor 🙂

Supermassive Games offers you the menu of this horrific action adventure video game “the Quarry” to take turns playing as young counselors from the Hackett’s Quarry camp! Youth obliges, these teenagers want to party to celebrate the end of the season. Obviously this will not go as planned because as Melissandre would say in Game of Thrones, “the night is dark and full of terror”. The forest and the places surrounding the Hackett’s Quarry camp have some very unpleasant surprises in store for us. I won't reveal any element of the story because it would spoil this good horror experience for you :p Clearly, as with Until Dawn, the goal of the game in The Quarry is to have as many survivors as possible, the Ideal would be for all these young monitors to survive! I wish you courage ^^

Indeed, many difficult choices are made as the adventure progresses. Thinking I was doing the right thing, I unfortunately had quite a few of my instructors who died prematurely :-/ . I think I wouldn't make a good survivalist leader lol 😀 The Quarry has 10 chapters, it took me three busy evenings to finish the game 🙂 . Obviously as I haven't saved everyone I plan to start again and make other choices in order to obtain all the different endings :) . The Quarry offers a cooperative mode where you can take turns passing the controller but also a cinema mode. I'm not going to lie to you The Quarry is more of an interactive horror series than a video game. Clearly we have to be content with a few QTEs on the controller inherited from the Shenmue Saga (press the right button at the right time), with 3.4 phases of gun fights which leave us only one chance (a single shot). You better aim quickly or you'll die ^^

The Quarry blew me away technically! The graphics are realistic, our characters and NPCs seem to be alive in this game! Pad in hand, there is no difficulty in directing the instructors. The staging, the sets, the sound effects, the music, and the atmosphere are there! You will shiver in The Quarry! I also appreciated that the game was entirely in French, I really had a good time, the Quarry is a good experience. I of course have some small regrets. The Quarry has almost no “jump scares”. I thought I would jump in terror like in Until Dawn, alas no. Horror is very present in The Quarry but it is more discreet and subtle. The gameplay is also not very present apart from the few exploration phases and the QTEs are really the minimum of the minimum. You won't sweat with the controller ^^

My verdict

The Quarry is the worthy successor to the game Until Dawn. If you liked Until Dawn you will love The Quarry! The atmosphere is crazy, graphically it's superb, the story is successful, it's a very good interactive horror series! But hey, will you manage to save everyone in the game?
