Review of The Chant
A little JV of horror it's been a long time! Here is my review of The Chant on Xbox Series X!

The Chant is a horror action adventure video game offering 3 difficulty modes. This game offers a 3rd person camera and you play as Jess, a young woman on a spiritual retreat following a family trauma. So here we are, embarked on a dark and mysterious island in the company of a community advocating a return to basics and spirituality. This seemingly peaceful and love community actually hides a dishonest guru and followers who are all traumatized in different ways. Obviously our first group therapy will turn into a nightmare and the problems will begin.
I have already played more than 3 hours and I have happily passed half of the game with 06 chapters. Clearly I think that in 5-6 hours I would have completed this game in a straight line. Obviously The Chant has several endings and the way we play will modify the ending. Some players feel Resident Evil in The Chant through its game mechanics, but I see it more like Alan Wake in its gameplay, it's far from unpleasant. Our Jess has 3 gauges, cold blood, spirituality and life bar. Meditation allows us to rebalance our character in cases of anxiety and stress. This game alternates between exploration, confrontations (or escape) and accessible enigmas (puzzles).
This game constantly plays with the phobias of Jess and the various followers of the spiritual group. The bestiary is rather inspired and original. The Chant unfolds its horrific story well. The staging is careful and the French version has nothing to be ashamed of compared to the original version. On Xbox Series In addition, the game is very fluid, the topography of the island is coherent, The Chant is frankly pleasant to play. If I have a little regret to say it's that it doesn't offer a jump scare, are we in a horror game or not ^^?
My verdict
The Chant is an enjoyable, unpretentious horror/action/adventure game. Certainly it is not as famous as Resident Evil or Silent Hill but it still has a certain charm. I passed the halfway point of the game in not even 3 hours, but clearly I thought I had only played 10 minutes. When we lose track of time it’s often a good sign! Some people will complain that the game is too short, but I prefer that to endless games that drag on for a long time. It's a shame, however, that this game is modest and timid in terms of horror because it would have deserved some very scary jump scares :p
