Like A Dragon Ishinis the remake of the game Yakuza Ishin available in 2014 on PS3 and PS4! Thanks a thousand times to the TeamPlaionfor sending me a copy of the game so that I can offer you my review of Like a Dragon Ishin ^^
From the start of the game I was struck by its atmosphere and its many similarities with the Sega Dreamcast video game monument, I called Shenmue. I don't know if it's intentional or not but frankly I found it nice! Pad in hand, we play Ryoma Sakamoto who will be wrongly accused of murder. As in every Yakuza game, we will have to deal with local delinquency, in addition to advancing in the main story divided into 14 chapters.
Like a Dragon Ishin takes place during the BakuMatsu era (the end of the shogunate) in 1868. In Like a Dragon Ishin our character must infiltrate the dangerous group of Shinsengumi samurai and discover the real murderer. This group of Shinsengumi samurai is supposed to bring order to Kyoto but obviously they sow more chaos than anything else without forgetting to kill people arbitrarily. Fortunately our character will put a good kick (or sword) into this anthill of samurai with an easy trigger (and sword).
Visually, Like a Dragon Ishin blows hot and cold. We go from cutscenes to some splendid settings in some places that are not visually inspired, without forgetting the ghosting of NPCs like in the good old days of Shenmue :p. But hey, the little bit of polish still does this Yakuza Ishin remake some good. It's visually clean and the game is perfectly fluid, in short it's perfect during the combat and action scenes. The two cities explored, Tosa and Kyo, are teeming with life, we can clearly feel the inspiration from Yu Suzuki's video games. Obviously we do a lot of back and forth, it's somewhat redundant but we can't do otherwise, we must not forget that the game dates from 2014. The original game Yakuza Ishin was reserved exclusively for Japan. Fortunately this Like a Dragon Ishin remake offers voices in Japanese but above all subtitles in French!!!
Concerning the lifespan, Like a Dragon Ishin divides the game into 14 chapters with a summary at the start of each episode like a series. Depending on the difficulty mode you select, the chapter will be completed in between 1 and 2 hours! Many NPCs, present in the open world, also offer side quests that are more or less inspired and very original for some ^^.
I'm halfway through the main plot and I'm having a (very) good time with this Like a Dragon Ishin. Just like Lost Judgment at the time, I don't want to rush the game, I prefer to take my time and discover each activity that this video game offers.
My verdict
Not having had the chance at the time to play Yakuza Ishin in 2014, I am very happy to be able to play its remake today on PS5 (also available on PS4 Xbox Series S/X and PC). Like a Dragon Ishin offers a very interesting and little-known historical context. Even if it may seem graphically dated in some places, Like a Dragon Ishin is an enjoyable open world game that offers action, combat adventure but also RPG. IF you like samurai, Like a Dragon Ishin is the video game for you :p
