In 1 year, the next generations of video game consoles will arrive! PS5 or Xbox Scarlett? How to choose? Here are my tips!
Having the chance to own all the video game consoles, I will try to be as objective as possible in this gaming file for the next consoles. So PS5 orXbox Scarlett? Here are my important elements to compare during your future purchase
THE DAY ONE GAME CATALOG
And yes, it's all well and good to launch a brand new video game console, but if this new console doesn't offer top games on launch day, what's the point of buying it? Clearly it’s like the “H” in Hawaii, it’s useless (Thank you Brice from Nice)! As a reminder, the Xbox One and PS4 launch games were really “meh”. We were only dealing with remasters! Personally, I waited 2 years before buying the Xbox One and the PS4. For future consoles I want “day one” of Forza from Halo du Fable as well as Gran Turismo and Spiderman which are going strong otherwise I risk postponing my purchase of consoles.
TOP BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY
Personally, I plan to buy my next video game console based on its ability to make games from old consoles compatible on the new machine. Clearly I have lots of video games that I still haven't started, and I want to be able to play them on my next consoles. And be careful, I want 100% backwards compatibility for old video games (XBOX One, 360, Xbox Original, PS4 PS3 PS2 and PS1). I know I'm demanding but at the price we risk paying for these future consoles I think we can demand this functionality :)
THE NOISE OF THE CONSOLE
This criterion may seem silly to some, but for me it is important. Clearly I can no longer stand my PS4 Pro which makes an unbearable noise while gaming. I want to play with a silent console, it's much more pleasant
THE PRICE OF THE CONSOLE
This criterion is I think the most sensitive for me. For the record, during the 360 and PS3 generation, I preferred to buy the XBox 360 because its value for money was much better. For the next generation it was the opposite, the PS4 had a much more reasonable price at launch compared to the Xbox One. There is no doubt that Sony and Microsoft must think carefully to offer their next console at the right price!
THE POWER OF THE CONSOLE
Some players attach importance to the power of the console and others don't care. Personally, at the time I favored games on PS4 because my Xbox One Fat was known for being less powerful. Now it's the other way around, all my games are on my Xbox One Scorpio 😀
THE LOOK OF THE CONSOLE
So we're not going to lie to each other, although it's suggestive (the taste and the colors), the VCR look of the Xbox One Fat and the sandwich look of the PS4 Pro weren't necessarily the stuff of dreams. For once, the design of the Xbox One S/X is much more refined. I hope Sony and Microsoft will offer nice consoles :)
GOOD ORIGINAL AND VARIED VIDEO GAMES
In the end I think this choice is the most important. So, even if the Xbox One is finally starting to catch up, the PS4 has offered original and varied games throughout its career (Uncharted 4, Spiderman, God Of War). Clearly I think that Microsoft has learned its lesson for its next generation of video game consoles, and the best is yet to come, whether at Playstation or Xbox!
MY FINAL OPINION
Clearly I will take into account all the criteria that I cited above, such as the game catalog, backward compatibility, power and price to make my choice at the end of 2020. What is certain is that these new consoles have an interest in offering “day one” exceptional games! I don't want to relive the sluggish start of the PS4 and the One :/
