In this article, I offer you my test of the Playstation 5 after several days of use! Happy reading!

Being the happy owner of the PS5 video game console since November 19, 2020, I can today offer you the test of the Playstation 5 on my blog. What is it worth compared to the Xbox Series X? Here is my full review!

Playstationnnnnnn

The release of each new Playstation is always a global event in the world of video games. And as usual everyone wants one, and of course it is the subject of shortages and speculation, especially as Christmas approaches. I won't hide the fact that I had a hard time ordering mine the evening pre-orders opened. But clearly I don’t regret my compulsive gamer purchase 😀

The size of the beast

Well, I'll be clear here, the Playstation 5 is big, very big! I have never seen such an imposing console in my entire gaming life. Concerning the design, some find the PS5 futuristic, others say that it looks like a low coast modem. Personally, I find that the look of this PS5 is original, what is certain is that it is imposing. Clearly I placed it behind my TV like for my XBox Series X.

For connecting the PS5, I didn't bother. It's as simple as on XBox Series

Dualsence

So I was skeptical, I know the magical communication of Sony which loves to sell dreams. They claimed a revolutionary DualSence controller, very immersive, notably thanks to haptic feedback. Clearly I am feeling mea culpa. This DualSence is just wooooooow ^^. It's the same big slap in my face that I got at the time of the vibrations of the very first DualShock.  Honestly, I'm rediscovering video games with this DualSence, you absolutely must, at least test this controller. In Spiderman Miles Morales, I have a blast. I feel all the sensations of Spiderman, it’s perfectly splendid :) . The jolts of the NY subway, the vibrations of Miles' smartphone, Spiderman's acrobatics, the launching of the webs, we feel it all thanks to this controller. I adopted this DualSence and clearly I now have difficulty returning to a classic pad.

The interface

As usual, the Playstation console interface is great. That of the PS5 is no exception to the rule. It's simple, intuitive, modern, the Playstation 5 interface is really great. It’s nice to navigate the menu of this console. Frankly, Microsoft should take inspiration from this interface for its Xbox.

The power of the PS5

I own the Xbox Series X and the PS5. Even if the PS5 only has 8-9 teraflops of raw power compared to 12 for the Xbox Series We will see over time if the trend reverses, but at first glance, the PS5 seems well optimized, perhaps better than the Xbox Series This game is just too beautiful, but above all incredibly immersive!

PS5 storage

The PS5 has an extremely fast SSD which ensures almost non-existent loading time in video games. It’s appreciable but of course, there is a price to pay! We only have 600 gigabytes of storage, in 2020 it's low especially when I see the size of the games at the moment. Today you need around 100 gigabytes per game, you don't need to be good at math to understand that the PS5's SSD will be saturated quickly :/ . It’s the same problem on Xbox Series X/S.

Backwards compatibility of games

The PS5 is capable of running PS4 games, only a few seem not to work, but they are in the minority. It does the job and it's always nice to continue and finish your PS4 games on Playstation 5.

Console reliability

Here I touch a sensitive chord. I learned of the first bugs with the PS5 (overheating, crashing, uninstalling games, error code, noisy console, see HS console) before its official release on November 19 and I feared malfunctions on mine.

Summary a week later, I got the error code when installing Spiderman, but ultimately the game installed correctly. My Playstation 5 ventilates during certain cutscenes, it sometimes makes noise but it's still much less noisy than my PS4 Pro. My PS5 is still noisier than my Xbox Series X, it should be noted. I did some research on the internet and it appears that the PS5s do not all have the same fan, hence the presence of more or less noisy consoles.

A work colleague's Playstation 5, on the other hand, seems much more capricious. It sometimes turns off by itself, the screen was split in two :/ and in-game crashes 🙁 .

I have the impression that Sony has launched a PS5 in beta mode to meet the Christmas holiday deadline. It is likely that the operating system is not yet 100% stable, hence the repeated bugs. I noticed many players on Twitter complaining about malfunctions on PS5. We must hope that these updates correct all its flaws. We will also have to hope that Sony after-sales service works correctly in order to repair or exchange defective PS5s :/

My verdict on the PS5

This Playstation 5 is promising! There is no doubt that we will enjoy the coming years with this Playstation. Dualsence is a small revolution in the world of video games. Its haptic feedback is incredible and in-game, the immersion is just mind-blowing. I strongly advise you to test this controller, it's amazing. I have incredible fun playing Spiderman Miles Morales on my PS5. I'm rediscovering video games thanks to this DualSence. There is no doubt that the next Playstation Studio games will be top notch! I'm really looking forward to it. My only fear is that my Playstation 5 will crash one day, especially when I see the feedback from players on the internet. We will have to hope that Sony is up to the task of repairing defective PS5s.
