Nintendo Switch review

Finally! after long months of waiting, the famous Nintendo Switch is finally available in our green country! Does this console keep all its promises? Here is my review of the Nintendo Switch!

It's an understatement to think that this Nintendo Switch was expected at the turning point following the bitter failure of the Nintendo Wii U! So has Nintendo learned its lesson? Is this Nintendo Switch a total success? Here is my review of the Nintendo Switch!

Nintendo Switch a different gaming philosophy!

From the outset, I took the risk of believing in the concept of this Nintendo Switch, which is innovative to say the least! I decided to trust Nintendo even though I was really bored with this completely abandoned Wii U... For what? Because the simple fact of being able to start your game in the living room and be able to continue it outside, alone or with your friends, directly delighted me! Playing where you want, when you want, without constraint, has until now been difficult if not impossible. On Nintendo Switch, you play the same game everywhere. This Switch is therefore a hybrid console, even if Nintendo presents it above all as a home console that can be transported outside. How does it work? It's simple, this Nintendo Switch is a 6.2-inch gaming tablet which has 2 joy-cons detachable from the screen. It is possible to assemble a classic controller by coupling the 02 joy-cons to a grip, or also use the capabilities of the joy-cons in motion gaming mode like wiimotes. Nintendo will also have to confirm that motion gaming is now much more precise on Switch with games like Arms! Note that a single joy-con can also be used as a minimalist controller to play local multiplayer. These ingenious and well-thought-out joy-cons allow for multiple gameplay possibilities. As usual with the Japanese firm's consoles, the gameplay is pleasant whether in portable or living room mode. Paradoxically, despite all these possibilities in terms of gaming, the concept remains clear and simple to understand, well done Nintendo. Nothing to do with the Wii U with its vague and unfinished concept.

Nintendo Switch, the hybrid console par excellence!

Nvidia had shown the way with the Shield Tablet. Nintendo, with its Nintendo Switch, added the final, personalized touch as only the Japanese company knows how to do, on this hybrid console. Indeed, playing in portable mode is as enjoyable as playing in home console mode. By placing her Nintendo Switch on her dock, the latter sees its capabilities upgraded with the transition from a portable 720p resolution to 900p or 1080p mode on her living room television. In living room mode, this Nintendo Switch looks exactly like a classic console. Its charm begins when it is transformed into a portable console. I personally love playing on the tablet, it's exhilarating to enjoy these living room games, anywhere! It is therefore clear that this Nintendo Switch lives up to its name. You can switch at will from living room mode to portable mode, as simply as possible and all without compensation or constraints! Well done Nintendo, gamers will love switching from home to outside!

Nintendo Switch the ultimate and robust retrogaming console?

Nintendo, by announcing the return of video games on cartridges for its Nintendo Switch, is on target! Beyond touching the nostalgic fiber of veteran gamers and collectors, the cartridge support has the definite advantage of its tenfold access speed to game data compared to DVD or blue-ray. In addition, a game cartridge is much more resistant to wear and tear over time. What a joy to play The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild with very fast loading times. This return of video game cartridges on the Nintendo Switch is a very good point, and I recommend that you favor this medium even if it is possible to acquire a dematerialized version of the game. The Nintendo Switch seems well designed but above all very robust. We are far from the cheap, low-end side of the Nintendo Wii U Gamepad. The Nintendo Switch exudes quality and attention to detail, particularly on the numerous technologies embedded in the joy-cons (infrared, HD vibration, NFC, motion gaming, gyroscopy, long-lasting battery…) but also on the quality of the very bright screen with vibrant colors. The shell of the tablet as well as the dock seem robust. I really appreciate the look and clean design of this console, it's good work. It is also worth noting the reasonable weight of the Switch Tablet, it is not bothersome even after long sessions on the tablet.  Small concern however, the tripod of the tablet, allowing it to stand tilted, on a flat surface, seems really fragile. It is necessary to handle this tripod with care otherwise it will break quickly! Also watch out for the dock which seems to scratch the tablet, really consider investing in protections for your Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Switch, a fun interface dedicated to games?

Honestly yes! What a joy, but above all what a joy to find a refined, fun interface but above all very simple to use. All joking aside, I still haven't mastered the Xbox One's gas factory interface, it's complicated... On Nintendo Switch it’s extremely simple! The menus are clear and well thought out, you can easily find everything you are looking for. You can take a screenshot instantly that you can share easily. To quibble, it's missing a few services found in the competition (twitch, youtube, multimedia player, netflix) but I think the next updates will correct this. On the other hand, I would like to give a round of applause for Nintendo, with its Switch which is very fluid in navigation! There's nothing to complain about! But above all, what ecstasy it is, to be able to play your video games directly without going through a mandatory installation and unbearable updates! On Nintendo Switch you play directly, without any waiting! (Hello Xbox one where you sometimes have to wait 1 hour to play your new game!) Well done Nintendo, great job!

Nintendo Switch a technically weak and outdated console?

I'm not going to beat around the bush, yes this Nintendo Switch with these 04 gigabytes of ram and its personalized Nvidia tegra processor, is not as powerful as an Xbox One and a PS4. the technical gap widens even further with the PS4 pro and Xbox Scorpio. But hey, at the moment, is the Xbox One or the PS4 transportable and playable outdoors? The answer is no! we must compare what is comparable! The Nintendo Switch is very different in this way! This does not prevent it, however, from having impressive games like the latest Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild (soon in testing). It has nothing to envy of a certain The Witcher 3. I think that this Nintendo Switch will be able to amaze the public with these future games, it will then be able to show what it has in its belly! We also have to be honest about the fact that the Nintendo Switch only has a ridiculous internal storage of 32GB… Frankly it's pitiful compared to the Ps4 and Xbox One which have 500GB or even 1 tera of storage! However, we can expand this storage with a micro SD. Fortunately, the games cannot be installed on the Nintendo Switch thanks to the cartridge support! Phew! You will just have to store game saves internally but that doesn't weigh much! Another big flaw, for the moment we still have to deal with the tedious Nintendo friend codes to find these friends on Switch! It's 2017, but Nintendo is still in the Stone Age! Ditto for voice chat support, that seems poorly planned! Nintendo discusses the need to use a smartphone to chat with players! We're swimming in delirium! Nintendo is a long way behind and really needs to take inspiration from Xbox Live and Playstation Network… To console yourself, Nintendo's paid online service should only cost €15/20 per year, to offer each month a cult retro game from the firm with a mustachioed plumber. Small hiccup to conclude this chapter, the autonomy of the Nintendo Switch in portable rarely exceeds 3 hours!

What to conclude about this Nintendo Switch?

Like any console, the Nintendo Switch is not perfect! On the other hand, this hybrid console is clearly innovative and offers a real breath of fresh air compared to the competition! Whether you are a classic gamer or a fan of motion gaming, the Switch can please the whole family! I see in its concept, the glorious return of local network games with friends whether we are at home or away. I also see the ecstasy of being able to continue playing games from the living room outside, but above all of being able to play anywhere, anytime and without any constraints! I see the perfect fusion between the home console and the portable console.  We must hope that success will be there for the Nintendo Switch because, whether we like Nintendo or not, the competition is important and benefits the players! We can expect many surprises on Switch for the next E3. Nintendo hasn't revealed everything, and I hope the best for this console that I really like! The involvement of third-party publishers will be decisive for the future and success of the Nintendo Switch. But above all, don't see this Switch as a console that can replace an Xbox One and PS4 for the moment, that's not the case! It’s not the same market, it’s not the same games! You will be disappointed! See this Nintendo Switch as a different but very fun video game console! It will be the ideal complement for your classic game consoles! I completely agree with the concept of the Nintendo Switch!  Trying this hybrid console means adopting it! Let’s Switch! Well done Nintendo!
