My review of Sonic 2 the Movie

This morning I attended the preview of Sonic 2 The Movie with my partner and my children! Here is my review!

You know me well by now, I have been immersed in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog since my earliest childhood! I started with Sonic video games on Sega master System 2 at the age of 5 and yeah 😀. Obviously my children have taken over and know Sonic the Hedgehog and his gang well. For this article, I will offer you two critiques. Mine and that of my children (they are 5 and 8 years old).

My review of Sonic 2 the Movie

I admit, during my review of Sonic the Movie in 2020, I wasn't expecting anything. Often films that feature video games are average or even bad. And finally I had a good time! For me, Sonic the Movie respected the codes of Sega's blue hedgehog, even if it did not satisfy some video game purists. Sonic the Movie offered a cinematic format for the general public, family-friendly, fuss-free and funny.

Sonic 2 the movieis a direct sequel to the original film. I promise there will be no spoilers in my review! To begin with, Sonic 2, the film is longer than the first! IT lasts 02 hours! I feared some lengths and downtime, ultimately this is not the case. There's a lot more action and adventure than in the first opus! Jim Carrey who takes over the role of Doctor Robotnik (or Eggman) is even crazier than usual, his interpretation of the film's villain is still just as funny! I also noted that the other actors have more important roles than in the first opus. and that’s so much the better. The story of Sonic 2 the film evokes the themes of adolescence, friendship and difference. In this film there are many nods to the Sonic universe. There are also quite a few references to scenes from cult films. It's fan service but it's still reasonable. I know the stories of all the Sonic video games by heart, and the Sonic 2 movie draws a bit from all these scenarios. So obviously I wasn’t surprised by this story. Nonetheless, I really liked this film scenario. Sonic 2 the film does not forget to be funny, sometimes touching, the reactions in the room were unanimous. Concerning the special effects, it explodes in all directions, the robots are well modeled, the action scenes are successful. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are well modeled and well integrated into the film. In short, it’s a good job.

My children's review!

My 05 year old kid “dad it was so good I loved it”. I love Sonic, he goes fast, I like Tails too ^^. I love Sonic 1 the movie and Sonic 2 the movie equally. His review isn't very elaborate but hey he's only 5 years old eh!!!

My 8 year old's review. “I love the fights against the giant robot” “Robotnik is so funny” “There's a lot more action and adventure than in Sonic 1” “Knuckles is too strong” “I prefer Sonic 2 the movie” “The music from the Sonic 2 movie “Speed ​​Life (Stéphane Legar)” is awesome”. His criticism is more evolved, isn’t it? 🙂

Sonic 2 the movie “is it stronger than you? »

For me Sonic 2 the film is a successful sequel! It’s a pleasant family film that does (a lot) good for morale! It is possible that it will not satisfy some blue hedgehog purists because of its general public format. But from my point of view, Sonic 2 the Movie is fun, even more generous, with many more action and adventure scenes.  Anyway, I hope there will be an episode three! PS: There is a post-credits scene watch out :p

To conclude Sonic 2 the film is like Sonic 2 on Sega Mega Drive. Even crazier, faster, more generous in content! When is Sonic 3 the Movie ???? 🙂 In short, Sega will always be stronger than you (for dinosaurs like me who know the reference in passing ^^)
