Matchpoint Test – Tennis Championships

I offer you my Matchpoint – Tennis Championships test, just before going on summer vacation :D!

My postman having had difficulty finding the Matchpoint – Tennis Championships game sent byKoch Media, I fell back in the meantime on the version available via my Xbox Game Pass subscription. So what is this new tennis game worth?

First of all, I would like to point out that my favorite game is the timeless arcade tennis game Virtua Tennis. I have spent hundreds of hours playing with my Sega Dreamcast :) . I also experienced the very good but also finicky Top Spin on Xbox. So I have a little experience in tennis games ^^

So I downloaded Matchpoint – Tennis Championships from my Xbox Game Pass subscription. It was fixed in a few minutes thanks to the holy optical fiber 🙂

Just to get my hands on it, I started with a quick match by choosing a player off the cuff. The game then offered me a short optional tutorial just to get used to the gameplay of Matchpoint – Tennis Championships. This tutorial is well thought out and quite quick. The player responds well with Xbox pad in hand.

This quick match allows you to get a first idea of the gameplay of this tennis game. Here are my first returns. It took me a little time to get used to the aim of the game, but with practice you get used to it, you just have to have your eye everywhere ^^. On the other hand, I find the game slow, much slower than Virtua Tennis. At the same time, Matchpoint – Tennis Championships appears to be simulation oriented, much like Top Spin. But I still have this feeling that the tennis game is a little too slow.

Matchpoint – Tennis Championships offers some interesting little new features like the rear camera. It's also fun to discover and exploit your opponent's weak point. The opponents are all different and that requires you to adapt your type of game.

The menu of this Matchpoint – Tennis Championships sports game is simple and goes straight to the point. Quick Match, career mode, online game, tutorial. I tried everything.

Online gaming has the good idea of offering crossplay regardless of the console or PC you have at home. I played a few games and it worked well.

The career mode is complete and offers all the different championships and friendly matches. You can choose your coach to personalize your player (my player is Guillaume Patoulatchi lol) and of course, as with any self-respecting career mode, you have to become the best player in the world. Matchpoint – Tennis Championships has three difficulty modes. I play semi-pro (amateur/semi-pro/and professional). I tested the amateur mode, frankly there's no challenge, it's too easy ^^, so I went back to normal semi-pro mode, it suits me well.

test de matchpoint tennis championships

Graphically Matchpoint – Tennis Championships blows hot and cold. The terrain is not doing too badly, however the modeling of the players leaves something to be desired. I play on Xbox Series As mentioned above, we are far from the crazy speed of the world. timeless Virtua tennis.

In terms of sound environment, it’s quiet, way too quiet. We are entitled to the bare minimum. It’s the ideal game to fall asleep in front of the television in the evening ^^

My verdict

Matchpoint – Tennis Championships does not match the timeless references of Tennis video games. It does not offer the speed and crazy sensations of a Virtua Tennis, just as it is not capable of being as complete and meticulous as a Top Spin. Technically, it lacks optimization and fluidity.

However Matchpoint – Tennis Championships is not unpleasant to play. Its career mode is complete and it's always nice to play a quick match, solo or online. IF you have Xbox GamePass, try it, you can form your own opinion!

Here is my note

Test carried out on XBox Series X (also available on PS4 PS5 and PC.
