Internet scams – be careful!

In recent years, I have witnessed an explosion of scams on the web. Today I offer you my Internet Scams file – be careful, danger!

The Internet is unfortunately not a heavenly and safe space. In this article I will explain to you the main scams that I see every day at my work. I hope that it will be useful to you and that it will allow you to protect yourself against these scams that are ruining our daily lives.

Webcam blackmail scam

This is one of the oldest scams on the web and unfortunately it still claims so many victims. The procedure is as follows. A person (young and attractive) asks you as a friend on your social network. After a few exchanges, the conversation becomes sexualized and your interlocutor encourages you to have a naked session on video using your webcam. ATTENTION!!!! During this short period of time, your interlocutor records the video and will then blackmail you financially. HE will demand money from you by threatening to broadcast the video to your contacts. NEVER DO nude sessions!!!! If the damage has already been done, DO NOT PAY!!! don't give in to blackmail. Paying is pointless and won't solve the problem. Block this scammer don't respond to these threatening emails. He will send different emails Police Gendarmerie Interpol then he will say that a member of his family is unwell, everything is false. Don't pay, block it, warn your loved ones and 24-48 hours later this bad story will be over.

The romance scam

This scam is wreaking havoc on dating sites and applications. In short, the scammer makes you fall in love with the person you are chatting with. Thanks to an attractive profile (rich, handsome, working for an NGO, or military abroad) he will take you into a romantic scenario.  There are often accomplices to make this story more credible. Once you're all in, he asks you for money on the day of the famous meeting to get him out of a mess (stranded at the border, impossible to pay for the hotel or plane, loss of his wallet). In short, the scammer financially robs his victim indefinitely... Everything is wrong! The profile does not exist, it is a story worthy of the fires of love. Don't fall for it. Do not hesitate to use the Google search engine to use the pseudonyms, email addresses and photos of these people. You will quickly realize the deception. But above all, don’t send money to strangers!!!!

The Minors Brigade email

This email has been wreaking havoc for many months! You have probably received an email supposedly coming from the Paris Minors Brigade, or from the DCPJ, Interpol and Gendarmerie. This email accuses you of consulting pornographic sites featuring children. And obviously you have to respond to this summons and pay a certain amount to avoid legal proceedings. “Well let’s see” as the other would say! The police will never ask you for money, even less by email, eh? Once again everything is wrong! You haven’done nothing wrong! The police do not summon people by email and do not demand money. Don't get fooled, DON'T PAY and report this email as spam then head to the trash!

Lottery winning inheritance email

Probably one of the oldest scams on the internet! Alas, it is still relevant today. In short, you receive an email from a bailiff or an individual who tells you that you are inheriting a significant amount from a dead or dying person. Obviously to unlock this inheritance you have to pay the application fees. Of course everything is fake and you will be sending money to a scammer. Winning the lottery is the same principle. You have won €1,000,000 and obviously you have to pay application fees! DON'T PAY, it's all fake. throw these emails in the trash.

The email in English that accuses you

This email, often in English, accuses you of consulting pornographic sites. He threatens to reveal everything to your loved ones. He asks you to pay a ransom in bitcoin to a wallet that he will obviously have indicated in his email. Don't pay, throw this email in the trash.

Email theft

One day you receive an email from a loved one saying they are in trouble abroad. He explains that he has lost all his papers and asks you to help him out by going to a tobacco shop. He explains to you that you need to send him transcash money order, western union coupons and he tells you that he will reimburse you. In short, the scammer has stolen your loved one's email. carefully check the address of your contact. Don’t hesitate to ask him questions and you will see that he is a scammer!

Computer blocked

You consult the internet and bam your computer freezes, an alert message asks you to call a "Microsoft" support number in 09 to quickly repair the computer. Many victims contact the so-called Microsoft after-sales service. The operator asks the victim to carry out manipulations in order to activate remote control. The scammer then takes control of the victim's computer and asks for hundreds of euros to unlock the PC! DON'T be fooled! Is your web browser blocked? It doesn't matter, turn off the computer! Then clean your PC with free antivirus and adw cleaner.

Phishing

You receive a message by email telling you that social security (or taxes) will reimburse you for a large amount in euros. This email then redirects you to a website imitating the tax or social security service. You are then invited to enter your bank details and unfortunately your bank account will be stripped. If you receive this email, do not respond and do not enter your bank details. Do not hesitate to report these phishing sites onphishing initiative. If the damage has already been done, cancel your bank card.

Real estate rental scam

This scam is very widespread. You find a superb real estate rental ad for a dream apartment in Paris or other cities, all located in attractive neighborhoods, with magnificent photos of the accommodation. Obviously the rent is a dream, the landlord indicates that he is abroad, he specifies that he wants to rent to a trusted person... Before visiting the apartment, the scammer tells you that he does not want to travel for nothing for the visit, and he demands a kind of deposit to be sent in cash money order, transcash western union and company, in order to ensure your seriousness.  DO NOT SEND MONEY DO NOT PAY! You do not pay before visiting an apartment. As usual, use Google and do some research on the pseudonyms, email and photos of the advert. Also pay attention to vacation rental ads, it’s the same procedure.

The fake sales site

A great classic this scam. You come across a website offering incredible prices on the latest Nike shoes, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles and Canada Goose down jackets. The prices are really low, it’s a dream. You rush to buy and unfortunately you never receive your item. And if you receive one, it is likely that it is a counterfeit or an item that has nothing to do with it! Before buying, check the URL address of the site on Google, ask for reviews on this site via Google. Clearly if you are in front of a website like plumberbayonne.fr which sells Nike shoes this is not normal… Check the legal notices of the site and the T&Csconsult trust pilot .

The fake buyer

You sell an item on a classified ad site. The buyer will contact you by email or text message. He wants to buy your item without discussion, and sometimes he offers you more. But there is a catch. The buyer will direct you to a bogus Paypal site or equivalent, you will then have to pay a certain amount to supposedly get your money. It seemed improbable to pay to get your money following the sale of your item, but unfortunately Internet users are fooled every day!!! DO NOT PAY for an item you are selling!!!! Now classified ads sites have secure payment platforms. Do not hesitate to consult the buyer’s profile to see if he is serious and as usual, help yourself with Google.

The fake seller

On a classified ad site you come across an item that interests you at an unbeatable price. Obviously you will pay but unfortunately you will never receive your item. To protect yourself, do not hesitate to consult the seller's profile, they are rated and you will know if they are serious. Help yourself to Google by querying the seller's emails and nicknames.

The false employment

You come across an attractive job ad that offers you the opportunity to earn a lot of money for just a few hours of work per week at your home. The scammer then sends you a check by post. The amount of this check is much higher than the salary, he asks you to cash the check and reimburse the overpayment. Be careful this check is stolen and you will have big financial problems. In short, it’s a very dangerous double scam.

The cryptocurrency trading scam

We all dream (first of all me) of making a fortune through trading and cryptocurrencies. Beware of fake trading and cryptocurrency sites! These websites are well done. Once you send money, they make you believe that you are quickly earning a very large sum and encourage you to invest more! But unfortunately, it will be impossible for you to recover your winnings and your money. Beware of these trading and cryptocurrency sites!!! Check on Google if these sites have a good reputation, only register on known reliable and serious sites. Obviously the golden rule of trading, we invest money that we don't need! Also be careful of pyramid scams, in the end you always lose!

The iPhone for 1€

The bigger it is, the more it works. A pop-up window or a post on a social network offering you the latest iPhone for €1 or the latest high-tech item at a knockdown price. In short, you supposedly pay €1 by providing all your details and you will then find yourself with a monthly subscription of €49 to €100 per month. In short, don't waste time with this scam...

How to protect yourself from internet scams?

Clearly, don’t put yourself in danger on the internet. Never undress during a webcam session, don't pay! Never give out your postal and bank details. Do not send money to strangers. Beware of fake profiles on dating sites, Do not pay before visiting an apartment, watch out for stolen checks. When you hear transcash, mandatecash, western union, run away from this scam! Don't pay bogus processing fees to unlock your money. Beware of tempting sales sites, watch out for fake emails. Always use Google to help you, carry out your own investigation so that you don’t get fooled again!!!

In short, I hope that this article will protect you from the main scams on the internet. Don’t hesitate to ask me your questions! If you are the victim of a scam, make a report on the P.H.A.R.O.S platform
