GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series: a powerful remaster?
After its release on PS3 / Xbox 360 in 2013 then its remaster on PS4 / Xbox One, Rocktar Games is now releasing another version of GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series! What is this remaster worth?
GTA V arrived in 2013 to the delight of gamers! No need to retest this timeless masterpiece from Rockstar Games! Everyone knows GTA V! In order to increase sales of this game, a remaster of GTA V PS4 and Xbox One was released a few years ago.
Obviously the opportunity was too good and Rockstar Games did not miss the boat of the new generation of PS5 and Xbox Series consoles by offering yet another version of GTA V. What is this new remaster worth? I can give you an answer with the PS5 remaster of GTA V that I bought for €10 on PSN.
In this article I will simply discuss the technical part of the game (loading time, graphics, handling), if you wish to consult the GTA V test you can reread my period test! It's the same game!
GTA V in better shape than ever?
After downloading thePS5 version of GTA VI relaunched the story mode to compare with my GTA V that I owned at the time on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Next Gen console obliges, GTA V PS5 (just like on Xbox Series X and S) sees its loading times greatly improved. The SSD and the new processor do a lot of good for the loading times of the game, casually it's nice to wait less to play + (campaign slogan for the presidential election ^^).
Graphically it's not crazy in terms of the differences compared to the PS4 Xbox One version. Yes, there are more details, it’s true, yes, anti-aliasing is good. On the other hand, the ray-tracing involved seems anecdotal. This is clearly not a leap forward graphically speaking. GTA V PS5 and Xbox Series X offers 03 graphics modes (quality/performance/RT performance). The quality mode (4K native 30 FPS ray tracing) does the job but nothing more, the 30 frames per second is catching on in 2022. On the other hand, I (very) strongly recommend that you switch your GTA V PS5 to performance ray tracing mode (upscale 4K 60 fps with ray tracing). This is the bomb! GTA V is finally smooth! What a joy to play in 60 frames per second! It's fast, it's fun and the game remains beautiful. It feels like a supercharged PC version! What more could you ask for?
Pad in hand, the Dualsence offers in GTA V a slight haptic feedback with resistance at the level of the triggers. You can also see the police flashing light on the controller :p, useless but funny.
My verdict on the PS5 remaster of GTA V!
The remaster of GTA V on PS5 does the job, nothing more. Don't expect crazy graphics like in some PS5 and Xbox Series X video games. GTA V PS5 (like Xbox Series) is only worth the cost if you want to play at 60 frames per second. To do this, use Ray tracing performance mode, you will see a nice difference! What is certain is that given the age of the game (2013) this remaster of GTA V is not worth more than €10! Note that you can get GTA Online on PS5 for free for 3 months if you only play online (you won't have the single-player mode though) and if you are a PSN+ subscriber. The Xbox Series X version of GTA V is technically identical to the PS5 version. The only difference? Its price! You have to pay €20… That’s 10€ more…
