Far Cry 6 review on Xbox Series

As time passes we are already at episode 6 of the Far Cry saga! Here is my review of Far Cry 6 on my Xbox Series X!

I took advantage of the winter sales to treat myself to Far Cry 6 on Xbox One, XBox Series S/X. I feared that it would be a simple copy of Far Cry 5 with Cuba sauce (Yara to be exact) and ultimately it's a good surprise, it erases the main faults that I had noticed in Far Cry 5. At the time I had played Far Cry 5 on my PC. My computer is no longer in its infancy, I preferred to play Far Cry 6 on my new Xbox Series X and I don't regret it at all.

On Xbox SeriesFar Cry 6runs at 60 frames per second and in dynamic 4K (same for the PS5). A first-person shooter in 60 FPS is really nice! Graphically Far Cry 6 is very colorful! This game offers a lively, detailed open world, heavily inspired by Cuba. The exploration of Yara is really enjoyable, we see that the extra year of development has done Far Cry 6 good. Regarding the gameplay, we move without difficulty with the Xbox pad, the handling is immediate, and the shots are precise. It’s exhilarating to make a big mess in this game! Special mention for the crazy mission with Danny Trejo, better known as Machete 🙂 Far Cry 6 still offers the opportunity to drive different land and flying vehicles, it's fun, it's crazy, it lets off steam 🙂  I didn't notice any bugs or crashes during my solo adventure in Yara, it's really a pleasure.

Let's talk about the adventure. Far Cry 6 allows us to play as Dani Rojas (male or female character of the player's choice) an inhabitant of the island of Yara who wants to escape the dictatorship imposed by Anton Castillo. Obviously the escape does not go as planned and Dani finds himself enlisted in the resistance. For once, I enjoyed the story of Far Cry 6. Ubisoft is finally making progress in terms of staging the scenario and the atmosphere. Obviously we don't reach the same level of writing and directing as a Rockstar game but there is something better in this game. On the other hand, Far Cry 6 is full of clichés when it comes to NPCs. Some are funny, others are too much caricature or forced inclusion with a good dose of wokism.  It’s also a shame that Anton Castillo lacks a touch of madness. He plays the role of dictator perfectly well but he lacks a little dose of crazy that we found with the villains of Far Cry 3 and 5.

The missions offered in Far Cry 6 are also more natural, more fluid and more varied. This is felt in the game, the progression in Far Cry 6 is more pleasant than in 5, I clearly didn't see the time passing. On the other hand, Ubisoft always offers the same schemes for these video games. Namely a big boss in the person of Anton Castillo, lieutenants who support him, and regions to be liberated by making contact with resistance groups. Ubisoft is struggling to renew itself but it's unfortunately a common misconception in open world shooting games.

Concerning the lifespan, I completed the main story of Far Cry 6 in 23 hours knowing that there are still plenty of other side missions to complete. You can also play Far Cry 6 cooperatively with a friend online! Once the story is over Ubisoft offers to free areas captured once again by villains. Everything is done to extend the good experience of Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 review here is my verdict

Far Cry 6 does not reinvent the first-person FPS wheel, but it improves compared to Far Cry 5. The missions are more varied, more enjoyable. There is also improvement in the story, the atmosphere and the staging even if it still does not equal a Rockstar or CD Projekt game. What is certain is that I had a great time in Far Cry 6! This episode is a good surprise for me and fingers crossed that the next episode of the saga progresses further!
