Today, I offer you my review ofDONJONS & DRAGONS: THE HONOR OF THIEVES!
At the end of February, I participated in a press screening ofDONJONS & DRAGONS: THE HONOR OF THIEVES! Clearly I was expecting an intergalactic drama, I feared the worst regarding this film. Against all expectations, I'm not ashamed to say it, I had a good time, and I laughed several times during this press screening.
And yes, we must admit that it’s very complicated to adapt the world-famous role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons at the cinema. Just look at the countless number of naughty people who have tried to adapt role-playing games or video games to the cinema (Street Fighter, Tomb Raider, and the best of the naughty Uncharted).
Maybe the directors ofDONJONS & DRAGONS: HONOR OF THE THIEVES have found the right recipe for this film to succeed. As with The Witcher series, the Dungeons & Dragons doesn't take itself too seriously. IT has a (very) good dose of humor and welcome lightness. Don't expect to see a film as serious and deep as Lord Of The Ring.
The DUNGEONS movie & DRAGONS: HONOR OF THIEVES offers decent special effects, nice music and the acting is quite good. Special mention to the Ménestrel who is very funny as is his teammate. They make a very good duo! Concerning the story I will let you discover the film, I have no pleasure or interest in spoiling the plot for you. Dungeons & Dragons lasts 2h14 and I never looked at my watch. I enjoyed this session at the cinema. It's not the film of the year, but what is certain is that this Dungeons & Dragons is much better than the latest Marvel Super Heroes in tights that we have been eating in all the sauces at the cinema for too many years...
My verdict
I expected the worst, but ultimately DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR OF THIEVES is good cinematic entertainment. He clearly doesn't have the depth of a Lord Of The Ring but he's not unpleasant. Although it is not the film of the century, this Dungeons & Dragons is full of humor, the production is rather nice, in short I had a good time at the cinema!
